Dear Colleagues,

this is an invitation to submit to the following sessions at the upcoming
AGU fall meeting (Deadline: 2 September. Submissions:
http://agu-fm10.abstractcentral.com/index.jsp):

B27: BIOGEODYNAMICS AND EARTH SYSTEM SCIENCES
The Earth System is characterized by complex non-linear dynamics in which
coupled biotic and abiotic processes shape the physical environment and
the associated ecosystems and evolutionary pressures. Climate is also
heavily affected by biological processes, such that biospheric feedbacks
cannot be neglected. We invite contributions on observational,
theoretical, and/or modelling studies of the dynamical interactions
between the biosphere and the physical, chemical, atmospheric and
geophysical processes that shape the Earth System, from the joint
evolution of the planet and the life forms living on it, to the response
of microbes, plants, and animals to climate change, to the two-way
interaction of climate and biosphere.

Invited Speakers: Tanja Bosak (MIT), Paolo D'Odorico (University of
Virginia)
Conveners: Marco Marani (University of Padova), John Albertson (Duke
University), Antonello Provenzale (CNR, Turin), Daniel Rothman (MIT)

NG09: PATTERN FORMATION IN EARTH SYSTEM SCIENCES
Many surface and subsurface processes lead to complex patterns in the
Earth Sciences, such as river, subsurface, and fracture networks,
bio-hydrodynamic structures, vegetation patterns, gravity fingers during
infiltration. The geometry of the emerging patterns largely determines
macroscopic quantities, such as fluxes, travel times, and related
ecosystem services and vulnerability. Despite relatively recent and
fundamental advances in the field, the selection principle and the
observed morphology of many pattern-forming geophysical processes remain
to be understood. We invite contributions on the observation of new
pattern-forming processes, experiments offering new insight, and
theoretical and modeling interpretations of the observed patterns.

Invited speakers: Brad Murray (Duke University), Taylor Perron (Harvard),
Johan van de Koppel (NIOO - The Netherlands)
Conveners: Marco Marani (University of Padova), Ruben Juanes, MIT
(juanes at mit.edu), Luis Cueto-Felgueroso, MIT, (lcueto at mit.edu), Andrea
D'Alpaos (University of Padova)

I hope to see you in S. Francisco!
