Research Associate in Geophysical Fluid Dynamics
University of Edinburgh

Applications are invited for a post of Postdoctoral Research  
Associate (PDRA) in the School of Mathematics of the University of  
Edinburgh. The successful candidate will work on a NERC-funded  
project on the theme "Generation of unbalanced motion at horizontal  
boundaries in the atmosphere and the oceans". The project aims at  
demonstrating and quantifying the importance of surface-temperature  
dynamics in the generation of atmospheric and oceanic gravity waves  
and turbulence. The research will be carried out in collaboration  
with Drs J Vanneste (Edinburgh) and R K Scott (St Andrews).

Candidates should have a PhD in applied mathematics, atmospheric or  
ocean physics, or a related field; they should also have experience  
in theoretical and/or numerical modelling of fluids, preferably  
geophysical fluids.

The starting salary will be in the range of £27466-£32796. The start  
date can be mutually agreed between 1 July and 31 December 2008. This  
post is offered on a 24 months full time fixed term contract.
